About the Port Hope Community

Port Hope is located on Lake Ontario, approximately 109 km east of Toronto, along the 401.

Port Hope is part of Northumberland County and the municipality includes Campbellcroft, Wesleyville, Perrytown, Tinkerville, Zion, Welcome, Canton, Elizabethville and other small hamlets.

Port Hope offers small Town charm due to its Heritage Port Hope Advisory Committee and historically significant buildings. Port Hope is popular as a Heritage destination due to its higher per capita rate of preservation than almost any other place in Canada.

Port Hope is also famous for its All Canadian Jazz Festival which attracts thousands of people and features some of the best Canadian Jazz Musicians.

Port Hope has a number of features residents enjoy such as a Library, a fabulous downtown featuring great restaurants, antique shops and charming stores, the last functioning operatic Theatre in Canada, waterfront beaches and the Ganaraska River flowing through town, providing scenic areas to walk or sit by the river.  So scenic, charming and historically preserved, there have been and continue to be movies filmed here regularly.

Years ago Port Hope was a popular place to retire, however, in the last decade, many younger families have relocated to the area looking for a better quality of life and a safer place to raise their children. Given its close proximity to the GTA, many residents commute to GTA or Durham for work daily.

With a variety of Events, Restaurants, Arts & Culture and shopping, Port Hope has grown in population.
